Commitee Biographies
Convenor -
Bobby Duncan
Bobby has wide
business experience having run a successful law firm and been a
director of several companies. She is currently a Barrister
specialising in family law. She has wide experience in community
organisations including: Churchill Fellow 1979; Member NZ Foster Care
Federation and Chairman 1982-1985; Organiser of the
International Foster Care Conference 1985; Founder of
Parentline Fostering, Hamilton 1981, Parentline Wellington 1983;
Chairman Board of Trustees Te Horo School 1993-96; Past-President
Kapiti Coast Quilters; on Organising Committee Coast to Coast 2005.
Deputy
Convenor and Sponsorship - Paulette Meldrum
Paulette has
over 25 years experience in office management, conference and event
organisation, human resources and training. Some of her roles
include Chair of the 2005 Wellington Quilting Coast to Coast
Committee, Convenor Kapiti Coast Quilters 2005/6, Conference
Coordinator, New Plymouth Convention Bureau and past president of a
national organisation. In addition she has been Chair and
Facilitator of numerous conferences and seminars.
Deputy
Convenor and Exhibitions - Chris Kenna
Chris is a
qualified accountant with 15 years experience as a Senior Management
Consultant working for an international accounting firm, both here
and overseas. She specialised in Strategic Planning, Business Re-engineering
and Project Management. Chris is a Past President of Coastal
Quilters and a member of Wellington Quilters Guild.
Secretary
- Melanie Duncan
Melanie
Duncan, a severely put-upon daughter of Bobby, has herself been a
keen quilter for ten years, making her first quilt under mother's
watchful eye. She is currently studying for a Master's degree at
Victoria University
Treasurer
- Maureen Moore
Maureen is a
retired research scientist and computer analyst. She successfully ran
a small business for ten years, and currently organises regular
residential classes. She was responsible for organising the Japanese
embroidery section, including exhibition, for Embroidery 2000 in
Auckland. She has served several terms as Treasurer for Capital
Quilters Inc.
Tutors
Convenor - Marge Hurst
Marge is a
professional quilter, teaching quilting and patchwork in NZ,
Australia, Canada and the US since 1984. She was President and
Newsletter Editor of the National Association of NZ Quilters
1997-2001. She was Co-convenor of the Tutor Committee for Wellington
Symposium 1993. Marge set up Coastal Quilters with Sue Bracken in
1988, was on the organising committee of Coast to Coast 2005 and is
past Treasurer (three years) and past President (two years) of
Coastal Quilters.
Merchants
Mall Convenors - Judi Ferguson/Tricia DuBern
Judi ran her
own fabric shop for several years. She has been the President of the
Wellington Quilters Guild and on the committee holding a variety of
roles for a number of years. She organised the 2005 Quilt Show and
Sale in Shed 11.
Tricia is a
member of Pinestream Quilters and a Life member of Wellington
Quilters Guild. She works for the Shut-In Stitchers programme and was
Convenor of Refuge Quilts Project for a number of years. Tricia was
also on the organising committee of NZ Executive Secretaries 2000
Conference, and Logistical Co-ordinator for Residential Programmes
for NZ Institute of Management and currently works as a Project
Administrator in the IT industry.
Venues
Convenor - Sue Bracken / Maree Le Comte
Sue is a past
President of the Wellington Free Kindergarten Association which
covers 54 kindergartens from Lyall Bay, Wellington to Levin. She also
chaired the building committee which during that time was responsible
for the building of Lyall Bay kindergarten and was involved in the
initial planning of Adventure Kindergarten,Whitby. Her patchwork
experience began in 1986 and she was the foundation president
of Coastal Quilters from 1987. Other roles within Coastal Quilters
have included two stints as president and two as class secretary.
Maree is a
Property and Facilities Manager working within the Wellington
property market and specialising in buildings with heritage features.
She started quilting 10 years when her neighbour asked to whether she
would attend a class at the local high school with her. Maree is a
past president of Coastal Quilters and has also served a term as club
secretary and has just taken over as class secretary.
Human
Resources Convenor - Jane Dagger / Pat Moran
Jane is a
Registered Nurse working in the Primary Health Sector. She is the
immediate Past President of Wellington Quilters Guild and has been
co-ordinator of the Refuge Quilt Project for eight years. Jane
is currently on organising committee of Coast to Coast 2007.
Publicity,
Marketing, Communications Convenor - Ursula Clark
Urs is a
member of Wellington Quilters and has been quilting for about 7
years. In her working life, she designs learning and information
solutions for companies - in essence writing content for paper and online.
Catering
and Entertainment Convenors - Jeanie O'Sullivan/ Debra DeLorenzo
Jeanie
O'Sullivan is an Information Technology consultant currently working
on a long term contract as IT Manager for a medium sized business.
She has recently completed a four year term as secretary of Capital
Quilters which included responsibility for organising quilting retreats.
Debra
DeLorenzo is a qualified kitchen and bathroom designer and has run
her own design company for 8 years. Prior to this she co owned The
Village Green Cafe and Catering with her sister Sheryl Anicich. She
is a committee member of the NKBA and Certified Designer Society, and
has been involved with the organisation of designer retreats and
conferences as well as several Hutt Valley quilt exhibitions. |
