Students are
provided with a complimentary teaching pattern (choice of dancing
star, tulip, abstract design or rose leaves).
-
Fabrics--100%
cotton fabrics. Batiks and multicolored hand-dyed fabrics.
Bring a variety of favorite fabrics and include all colors in at
least three values (light, medium and dark with a noticeable color
contrast from a distance of approx.10 ft.) Choose colors that
are vivid and bright, as well as some that are pastel (pale), shades
(dark) tones (grayed) and the deepest dark colors. With
this technique, you do not need fabric in large amounts-½ or
¼ yards, scraps or fat quarters will do.
- Sewing
machine is required (one capable of machine blindstitch ---^---^---^ )
- Special
sewing machine feet required Open-toe appliqué foot
- Your
instruction book, all feet, all cords and extension cord for those
bringing own machines
- Stabilizer-one
to two yards of Pellon/Vilene regular lightweight or mid-weight
stabilizer (not iron-on or tear-away) (NOTE: In NZ, Vilene BO505 is
apparently the closest to the Pellon Vikki uses. Vikki recommends you
try pressing with iron on cotton setting, there should be NO
wrinkling or shriveling.)
- Freezer
paper 1-2 yards
- Needles
(for sewing machine) use regular 80/12 for piecing
- Scissors-
paper and fabric
- Spray
bottle for water
- Straight
pins (sharp!)
- Threads
-bring a variety...for matching or blending the colors of flowers,
leaves and background.
- Bobbin
wound with gray thread
- Seam ripper
- Stitch
Witchery only if you have it already (comes on a roll, about
5/8" wide) (Stitch witchery is not available in NZ at the time
of writing. Misty Fuse or a comparable white fusible webbing can be
substituted. Note that only a small amount is needed so don't go out
and buy a lot of the stuff. Semco hemming web is also a good substitute.)
- Batting
small amount (about 20" square)
- Scotch
tape, eraser, pencils, ruler, notebook
- Please,
don't forget your nametags!
Please
remember, no workshop project is ever a masterpiece. This is a fun
project. You are here to relax and learn an exciting new technique so
please don't worry or agonize over fabric color choices. |
