There is an
additional cost of $AU10.00 equivalent payable to the tutor for the
use of dyes and associated chemicals, wax and other resists.
Needs list
-
100 per cent
cotton fabric, plain, hand dyed or even a print which you would like
to transform. Nothing heavier than homespun as the resist needs to
penetrate the fabric. Lightweight voiles and lawns work well but
please no calico! Silk also works very well. Fabric should be washed
in hot water with detergent prior to class. To test the absorption
factor of the fabric, put a few drops of water on the fabric - if it
sinks in straight away it is fine. If the water beads on the fabric,
wash again or put aside for another use.
- Newspapers (several).
- Masking tape
- 1 metre
piece of black plastic (available from a hardware store by the metre)
- Klipfast
quilting frame (made from poly pipe), old picture frame or stretcher
bars used for stretching canvas to paint on. Approximately 30cm x
40cm or thereabouts. This is to stretch your fabric on when you are
creating your designs.
- Drawing
pins (if you have a wooden frame)
- Scrap
paper and a pencil.
- A few
sponge brushes.
- A few
clean, used tin cans, labels removed.
- Some cheap
brushes- anything from ½ inch to 4 inches wide.
- Round
bladed knife or plastic spatula.
- Tjanting.
This is a tool for applying hot wax in lines onto the fabric. They
are available from art supply stores or suppliers of dyes. It would
be good if most people could have one but do not stress if you can't
obtain one as Susan will bring a few.
- A few ice
cream containers with lids or large jars with lids.
