Sewing machine
in good working order - cleaned and oiled. All feet, attachments and
manual. Extension cord.
A darning
or free motion foot is essential. This is a foot which when the feed
dogs are dropped allows the fabric to be moved freely under the foot
of the machine. Please make sure that you know how to lower your feed
dogs, have the correct foot and know that it is possible to do free
motion stitching with your machine before the class as this is essential.
If you
have a machine with a bobbin case or a removable bobbin assembly
(such as on some of the more recent Husqvarnas), a spare one can be
very useful for using thicker threads.
Machine
embroidery hoop (these are shallower than hand embroidery hoops to
allow them to fit under the foot of the machine )
A good
selection of threads both in range of colour and type e.g. include
variegated cottons and polyesters, metallic, rayon etc. Also include
one or two thicker threads such as a no. 8 perle cotton or Madiera
Décora for example.
Two pieces
of fabric 30-40cm square (dimensions and squareness not that
important!) with wadding and backing fabric of similar dimensions.
Topstitch
or Metallic machine needles in sizes 80 and 90.
