Fabrics required to make block

  • 11" square of fabric for background

  • Assorted scrap fabrics for wings, body, and tail feathers  (Note: Include a range of values, including darker ones for back wing.)
  • Two scraps of medium and dark fabric for eye
  • Assorted scrap fabrics for flower
  • 4" square of fabric for stem
  • 6" square of fabric for fronts of leaves 
  • 6" square of fabric for backs of leaves

Tools and Supplies for hand appliqué

Note: I will give out two types of needles during class.

  • Basic sewing supplies: thimble, embroidery scissors, silk or cotton threads that 

  • match or blend with your fabric colors
  • Toothpicks for turning under fabric edges
  • Freezer paper for making templates
  • Sharpie fine-point or ultra-fine point permanent marking pen 
  • Fabric-marking pen or pencil for marking around templates
  • White milky gel roller pen for inking eye
  • Clear nail polish (not needed during class)
