Intermediate but students need ot be familiar with some free machine stitching and working with Bondaweb/Wonderunder.

Needs list:

To make an appliqué bag:

  • 100 cm of cotton duck canvas 

  • 100 cm of Bondaweb or similar
  • 80 cm of plain or printed cotton fabric for lining
  • 1 metre cord or plastic tubing 10mm diameter for handles
  • Magnetic fastener or large press stud 
  • Bits of leather (optional)
  • Assortment of (plain) coloured fabrics for appliqué (hand-dyed is good)
  • Matching and/or variegated threads
  • Mat, ruler and rotary cutter.
  • Sewing machine. Extension cable etc.

To make a bag out of old jeans:

  • 2 or 3 old pairs of jeans in different shades, it helps if you have unpicked some seams.

  • Old denim or checked shirt or 1m of lining fabric, if you've got a thin suede or leather jacket this can be used for base and binding.
  • 20 cm white fabric for contrast
  • A4 piece of Bondaweb
  • 1m wadding
  • A selection of blue machine threads.
  • Sewing machine. Extension cable etc and some spare needles.

Magnetic studs are available to buy at  $NZ2.50 per set.
